An Experiential Day Seminar, 10 Mar 2012 What's going to happen? How to Know Yourself and Authentically Connect with Others We spend much of our time feeling disconnected from ourselves and each other. But it only takes a moment to wake up and connect ‘I’ to ‘I’ – deep self to deep self. Whether it be in the world of business, our family life, or our social life with friends, when we become conscious of the depths within it transform the experience of living. We feel relaxed and in love with being ourselves. We appreciate the miracle of meeting another human being who is also experiencing this bittersweet adventure of life. If you’ve watched the movie Avatar you’ll know the characters greet each other with the phrase ‘I see you’. That’s how it feels when we connect ‘I’ to ‘I’. We genuinely see each other. And when this happens our relationships naturally become clearer, deeper, and more creative. We bring out the best in each other. We celebrate our wonderful individuality. We authentically connect and empower each other to become more alive. In India people use the greeting ‘namaste’, which can be understood as meaning ‘I acknowledge you from the place in me where you and I are one.’ Connecting ‘I’ to ‘I’ enables us to acknowledge to each other that at the depths of our being we are essentially one. And when we discover that we are one with all we find ourselves in love with all. In the Hindu tradition meeting with a spiritual master is regarded as a great blessing, because we find ourselves becoming more awake. We resonate with the expanded state of consciousness inhabited by the great spiritual being we’re with, which transforms our own state. This is a wonderful experience known as darshan. However, when we connect ‘I to I’ we can feel the joy of darshan with anyone, because actually we’re all great spiritual beings. Tim explains "Having written many books on waking up to oneness I am seen by many people as a non-dual philosopher, which in one way I am. However in another way my life has led me to a very different perspective. I certainly resonate with many non-dual teachers who I respect immensely. But I find myself profoundly disagreeing with interpretations of non-dual philosophy that teach that our separate identity is an irrelevant illusion, because oneness is the only reality. So I guess I’m a bit of a non-dual heretic. ;-) I look forward to the opportunity to share with you why it seems to me that separateness is to be celebrated not derided. I am going to suggest that the experience of individuality is important, rather than an obstacle to be overcome. And that if we embrace our vulnerable, fragile, tender humanity it actually becomes much easier to experience a profound awakening. An approach to life that devalues the experience of separateness can end up being very cold because it misses the importance of love, which is the experience of connecting as one through the dance of being two. In my experience waking up to oneness is the beginning of really appreciating the adventure of separateness … by loving being and being loving."
